THINK DETROIT PAL HOOPS ENCOURAGE COLLEGE DREAMS
TDP TRAVEL PLAYER ENCOURAGED TO TEST HER SKILLS IN COLLEGE BALL
DETROIT, Mich.—Aubrey was more than thrilled to play on her high school basketball team. She was a major reason her team was successful.
After the season was over, she was selected to play on the Think Detroit PAL travel basketball team to represent Motown’s Finest. “I was a little nervous when I went to that tournament because I never played out of state.” After the weeklong event was over, she realized that she could compete with anyone. “That’s when I believed that maybe I could play in college!” Aubrey stated.
Performing arts and dance were always her first love but her high school coach encouraged her to attend a few college basketball camps; one of those camps lead to her receiving a full athletic scholarship. She now plays for Lansing Community College where she’s earning credits towards her degree.
“Think Detroit PAL definitely played a roll in my decision to attend and play college ball. I’m so happy I played on that team because it gave me the opportunity to see how well I stack up against girls from around the country. Now I get to go to college for free, and afterwards I want to transfer to a university.”
Think Detroit PAL was formed on March 1, 2006, by the merger of two of the leading youth development organizations in the Detroit area: Think Detroit, Inc. and the Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL). The organization is one of the largest non-profit urban youth leadership programs in the nation, and serves nearly 12,000 youth annually.
